The Spring Musical is an annual event that coincides with Shakerag Elementary's Artist Day at the end of March. All students in 4th and 5th grade are encouraged to audition and share their talents with the community and the school! There are two sets of auditions: Round 1 Auditions are for narrowing the cast size and Round 2 Auditions are for assigning cast roles. We then work very hard between January and March to deliver a high-level elementary musical performance!
Do the Auditions need to be memorized?
Memorization is highly RECOMMENDED, but not required. A hard-copy of the poem and/or script will be provided in the room during the audition to provide support in either audition level. For the song portion, the lyrics for the music will be provided but we WILL ask students to be able to sing independently without the support vocals in the background, so make sure you practice with both tracks!
Does it cost money to participate?
Yes. There is a mandatory $25 participation fee to assist in cost for royalties for the show, props, and set-building. Students are also required to provide their own costumes (or parts there of) for their assigned character.
When are rehearsals?
ALL REHEARSALS WILL TAKE PLACE ON MONDAYS, WEDNESDAYS, AND THURSDAYS FROM 2:20-4:00PM.
Please Note: Joining this musical is a large time commitment beginning in November until the end of March. We try to be respectful of student schedules and understand students may be involved in multiple activities, but with cast and crew running 30-50 students, it can become increasingly difficult to work around conflicting schedules. If your student is already involved in after-school commitments, we kindly ask that you give these schedule commitments due consideration before signing up to audition.
When Will the shows be performed?
The dates of the performances will include two evening shows on Wednesday and Thursday of the last week in March. We will also perform two matinee performances on Artist's Day. The Artist Day performances are intended for student audiences only, so we encourage parents to come to the evening show.
